Naples and Caserta are two destinations that are somewhat underestimated not only by foreign tourists, but also by Italian ones, perhaps due to an imagery that refers too much to Gomorrah, the Sails, the underworld, negligence. Problems that certainly still grip the area, but which do not preclude a culturally satisfying visit.
Naples offers visitors excellent ideas for a stay of a few days. The Royal Palace of Caserta then, beautiful and well connected by rail, is a beautiful trip out of town.
Historically degraded areas, such as the Sanità district or the Spanish quarters, can then offer unexpected surprises.
